msa online virginia beach

We design and produce plenty of WordPress websites for customers so that they can edit the content themselves, if they choose. Our hats go off to MSA, PC in Virginia Beach for keeping the new content they have added consistent with our original design. In addition, these folks have social media down to a science. Check out their facebook page or twitter page.

Our office mascot and tennis ball manager, Murphy, gets top billing on the home page of our latest web project for VetMEDResearch. As the largest verified veterinary research panel in the U.S., VetMEDResearch helps animal health companies reach veterinarians and hospital staff for research projects through surveys and focus groups. Over 3,000 verified panel members participate in the research for pharmaceutical companies, food and nutrition companies, pet service and product companies, as well as allied advertising and marketing research firms. Murphy approves.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with the super-talented team at Land Planning Solutions (LPS) to create their new responsive website. LPS provides land development services, civil engineering, residential design and landscape architecture services to Virginia and North Carolina. Their talent and expertise as well as passion for their work is very inspiring! Special thanks to the always wonderful Ellen McBride for copy and editing and our fave programming guru, Matt Conkle at Cova Services.

bumblebee logo

Robin Ripley is a garden and food writer as well as co-author of Grocery Gardening and has just launched a new book, Wisdom for Home Preservers. Her blog, Bumblebee, is about her life in rural Maryland, her garden, cooking, dogs and pet chickens.

Robin asked us to produce a fresh, new logo and blog design. The direction for the new logo was “plenty of white space, sophisticated yet fun and eclectic”. The custom, hand-drawn illustration mixes a blend of old and new and we love the end result. We also just finished Robin’s new blog site. Check it out at www.bumblebeeblog.com.

hearndon construction

We recently launched a new website for the nice folks at Hearndon Construction, known for quality yet affordable homes with many special features that are standard. The site is now responsive so it works well on tablet and phone and has new features to make the shopping experience easier.

Features include a Home Search section that displays all inventory with selected criteria to narrow down your search results. As prospects are viewing detail on a select home, additional options are shown for faster shopping. The new search area includes an admin tool for Realtors to edit inventory in page view and map view. The interactive maps and floor plans have a zoom feature, making navigation easier on kiosk monitors as well as tiny smartphone screens. Hearndon is now building at Dominion Meadows in the Grassfield area of Chesapeake and will have some new communities coming soon.

It must be that time of year again. Domain name renewal scams are coming in by regular mail and by email. Please contact your web host if you are uncertain about a letter or email that you received regarding your domain name renewal. The subject line may be titled “Attention: Domain Registration” and it’s nicely formatted to throw you off.

2010 gave us some fantastic clients and fun projects. We have been so busy (which is good!) that we’ve neglected our own blog. So let’s start with ~

custom dog collars

Mrs. Bones Bowtique ~ Mrs. Bones makes absolutely beautiful designer dog and pet collars – including the Martingale style – and once we finished their new website they sent us a few samples for our lab, Kayla. The collar fabric choices are awesome in the store, and when you add the gold engraving (added by Mrs. Bones herself), they are even more stunning. Check out their stores at Hilltop in Virginia Beach and Williamsburg. I’ll post a photo of Kayla modeling her new collars soon…Thank You Mrs Bones! You can also shop for Mrs. Bones’ collars online at www.mrsbones.com.

We designed and built this new website for one of our clients, Ken Cohen of Cohen Homes. Launched in early October, the site features the beautiful architecture style and details that are custom with all Cohen Homes. It was a pleasure working with Ken and his team to help us roll this one out in no time flat! Visit website.

I’ve met a few business owners recently who just paid for their brand new website that does…nothing. They hired the web designer, approved the design and the website is now live. Yet nothing is happening. They are receiving minimal e-mail submissions, very few hits on the site, maybe a few phone calls and no search engine ranking.

The first problem is that many sites are not designed –  nor are they built –  for search engine optimization (SEO). In addition, once the website is finished, owners think they can just sit back and the contacts will roll in. In reality, it’s only the beginning – there is much more work to be done. Think of your website as your car – it won’t get you anywhere unless you keep adding fuel and continue to maintain the engine. (I’ll bet car enthusiasts will love that one).

How you advertise your website is just as important. If you only advertise twice monthly in a newspaper ad, you are missing the boat. Online advertising, social networking sites, mobile media and blogs are today’s keys to your website’s performance. Monitoring your website hits through web stats is vital. Changing content frequently is also important for search engine indexing. I could go on here.

If you need an evaluation, give Maurice Design a call. What have you got to lose?
